Namaste and Konnichiwa!
I am Krishamsu Subedi Chetri and it is a great honour and delight to represent Nepal here today.
I begin my statement with recitation of a verse written by Nobel Laureate Poet, Mr. Rabindra Nath Tagore which says:
Peace! My heart, let the time for the parting be sweet,
Let it not be a death but completeness,
Let love melt into memory and pain into my songs,
Let the flight through the sky end in the folding of the wings over the nest, I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way.
Yes, peace is a lamp which brings about the light and brightness of harmony, humanity and humility. It strengthens stability, serenity and sagacity to the human societies.
People often tend to search for peace from others. Peace should not be looked on others, it should be found out within them.
War often brings about destruction, disruption and displacement. Peace often brings about happiness, harmony, humility and humanity.
War often creates tears, terrors, tragedies and tombs. Peace often creates safety, security, stabilityand sustainability.
War often creates inequality, injustice and intrusion. Peace often creates equality, justice and elegance.
Peace is essential for the survival of human beings and humanity, and for driving and striving for making a better and brighter world.
Let us work togetherly toward peace, regardless of our ages, races, faces, faiths, religions, and ideologies as well as regardless of countries and continents, to narrow the gulf between the haves and have-nots, between the rich and the poor, between the black and the white, between the developed and the underdeveloped countries, and between the north and the south.
We should believe in amity with all and enmity with none.
That is why, we need to chant a mantra of “vasudhaiva kutumbakam”, which means, we all the people on the earth are relatives.
I end my statement with a quote of the last words of Lord Buddha who was born in Nepal and regarded as the apostle of peace, compassion, and non-violence.
“Appo Deepo Bhava”, which means “Be a light unto yourself”. Yes, nobody can bring you peace but yourself.
Let us all make the earth a better, brighter and beautiful place to live.
Long live peace!
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
