Sewing with Children Around the World

What is peace for you?

Communicate even if you don't understand the language

If we embroider the flags of various countries, it will help everyone get along with each other and lead to peace.

Hello. I am Honooa, a fifth grader who lives in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, and I love to be funny and always have a smile on my face. I like to do embroidery. Especially when I embroider, I enjoy being able to create what I want to express from scratch.
The first time I embroidered was when I was in the middle of kindergarten. I embroidered a house using cross-stitch. I still remember the joy I felt when I completed it. I am now in the 5th grade, and I was really looking forward to the home economics class that started in the 5th grade. The saiho class is a lot of fun. The home economics teacher suggested that we make a calendar with those who had completed the “Nutori” assignment. We all finished the numbers together and the calendar was completed. I was very happy that everyone in the class was able to work together on the embroidery project, and we had a great time. So, I propose that we do the same thing with children all over the world.
It’s very simple! I would like to propose a new activity: the “Flag Embroidery Relay”.
I believe that if children communicate with each other even if they don’t understand each other’s language and embroider the flags of various countries, they will get along with each other and it will lead to peace. These are the flags of Japan and Switzerland that I made.
I believe that when everyone completes a large work of art made from scratch, they will feel happy and become good friends. If the circle of such happy feelings spreads, I think the world will become peaceful.
